An impulsive wrench-wielding mechanic once thought to be the universe’s last remaining Lombax, Ratchet has never known much about his true origins. His only family and confidant is
Clank, a small robot who has remained by his side through countless adventures across the universe.

In Ratchet & Clank™: All 4 One, Ratchet and Clank have retired from hero work. But when an old nemesis from Ratchet’s past returns to take his revenge, Ratchet finds himself kidnapped by a mysterious drone known as Ephemeris. Soon, he’s marooned on a distant planet with a dark secret; a secret not even its caretakers fully understand. Will Ratchet come out of retirement in order to save the universe one more time?

Clank is Ratchet long-time companion and logical best friend. He was born in a robot factory on planet Quartu, but was initially created as heir to The Great Clock, a time-keeping relic in the center of the universe (give or take 50 feet). Instead, he chose to remain at his friend Ratchet’s side and share in his adventures.

When we catch up with Clank in All 4 One, he’s living in the Polaris Galaxy with his best friend Ratchet. While the rest of the galaxy searches frantically for Dr. Nefarious, the retired duo have been going out of their way to do absolutely nothing. Secretly, this new life has made Clank restless. But after everything Ratchet has been through, he believes he deserves a little peace and quiet.

Copernicus Leslie Qwark has been a lot of things in his lifetime. He’s been a superhero, a regular hero, an actor, a spokesman, and even a villain. His willingness to reinvent himself at a moment’s notice stems from his ego and desire for attention. In All 4 One, Qwark finally manages to fail upwards into a position he can do a lot of damage in: Galactic President of the
Polaris Galaxy.

Unbeknownst to Qwark, the evil Dr. Nefarious has been plotting his revenge ever since he was defeated in A Crack in Time. Unfortunately for Nefarious, his plan backfires, resulting in an intergalactic kidnapping that forces him and Qwark into a shaky alliance with Ratchet and Clank. Will the big fella be able to save the universe and raise his approval rating while working with the galaxy’s most wanted criminal?

Doctor Nefarious is a robotic mad scientist who hates organic life forms. He is also the archenemy of the so-called "superhero" and current galactic president, Captain Qwark.

Nefarious was the primary antagonist of Ratchet & Clank 3, plotting to turn all organisms into robots. He was eventually defeated by Ratchet and Clank, but survived. He made several cameos in subsequent games, recurring more than any other villain in the series, and returned as the primary antagonist in Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time. At that point, he planned to gain control of time itself and remake history. He was again thwarted by Ratchet and Clank, retreating into hiding after being rescued by his servant, Lawrence.

Nefarious begins the game with a diabolical plot to take down his enemies once and for all by unleashing a Light-Eating Z'Grute upon the city of Luminopolis. He's mortified to find himself captured and bound to three inferior specimens, and he's always plotting to escape the group and hatch his own evil scheme. Will Dr. Nefarious learn the error of his ways and change for the better? Or is he simply biding his time before making a move against our heroes?
